CONCERT LECTURE WITH ULRICH NOETHEN
“The Big Sleep” by Raymond Chandler

Works by Astor Piazzolla, Friedrich Cerha, Pēteris Vasks and Dimitri Schostakowitsch.
with Ulrich Noethen, Speaker

Ulrich Noethen
The Big Sleep is a literary classic and an unprecedented highlight in the history of crime fiction, whether as a novel or as a film (Dead Sleeping Soundly with Humphrey Bogart). This concert reading is located somewhere between the brilliant book and the congenial film. Ulrich Noethen lends his voice to legendary detective Philip Marlowe, and the Boulanger Trio capture the moods unleashed by the text, in keeping with Raymond Chandler’s dictum that “the readers just think they’re only interested in the action, but that it basically something else is what interests them and what interests me: creating emotions through dialogues and descriptions.”
